Dove Onslaughter - Greenpeace

Background Information
Produced by Greenpeace, this commercial illustrates the link between Dove beauty products and the destruction of the rainforest in Indonesia.
Technique Used
Attack Opponents
This is propaganda because
This activates emotions and uses "either-or" thinking to position Dove as the villain whose actions are causing environmental harm. It may be helpful in increasing awarenes. It is oversimplifying the issue that so I think that may be harmful, too.

This shows a good message of helping the environment. But, the manner in which the advertisement showed it happening was very negative. Deforestation and harm of wildlife is a very horrible thing. But it sends the message that Dove is pro-deforestation and pro-hurting animals. Which is sorta extreme. It has an either-or perspective. Also using the little girl and the monkeys play to an audience's "aww that is so cute!" way of thinking.

I think this is very beneficial as it is sending a message to viewers to help the environment. I don't see it as very harmful because it is only promoting a simple message to Dove, not chaos.

This is beneficial propaganda because it spreads awareness about deforestation and that products we use everyday like dove are leading to this.

This is beneficial propaganda because it sends viewers a message to help the environment but at the same time i think it's oversimplifying the topic.

This one could easily go either way. It's definitely bad for dove, and these kinds of facts can be spread without simply bashing one product. I'm sure there are others that use it as well. However, it's also good to be aware of the issue in general.

This piece of propaganda is both beneficial and harmful because wit shows what we do to our society (harmful) but it shows us how we can change it (beneficial).

I think this is beneficial to the people watching because it makes you realize that a product we are buying is destroying a little girls home- it really plays on your emotions. But I think it is really harmful to dove because there are probably hundreds of other companies that also use this specific thing.

I think this piece of propaganda is beneficial because most people like me don't think of how consumers really affect other people. We see advertisements FOR Dove a lot and think about how they affect our society. But everyone is affected too and this piece really brings your attention to it and makes you think.

I think this is a very good message that helps bring word to these large companies ruining our earth for their personal gain.

Good because it shows how dove is bad for collecting so much palm oil to make their products, it shows how it affects the places it is taking the reasources from

This ad was very helpful because even though it was attacking a company, it was for a good cause. This video is trying to show/prevent the destroying of natural lands for products.

I think this video is good because it is showing people what we are doing for beauty. Especially using the child, it creates a lasting impact as to what is really going on behind the products we see on the shelf.

I think this video is beneficial because it shows everything we do to look "pretty" or look like other people or models we look up to instead of embracing who we are and our natural beauty.

I think this is beneficial because it brings awareness to people who didn't know the drastic costs of using palm oil and the effects it has on the Indonesian people and animals.

It shows pictures of trees being cut down, a few dead apes, and how Indonesian forest live is being cut down for oil products. It has few facts that simplify the problem. They mostly blame Dove.

It attacks Dove, blaming all this destruction on one company, but lots of other companies use palm oil in their products, not just Dove.

I think this ad is fairly helpful because it informs us with real facts about how Dove is destroying forests for its products. Some of the clips seem over exaggerated and the use of the child and the forest torn down really tugs at the heart. The ratings were very spread out on this ad and my response was closer to the beneficial side. However, I think this wasn't fully beneficial because of the means they used to attack Dove.

I think this is a successful example of propaganda. I feel this was because it makes the viewer feel sad and accountable of the fact that palm oil industries are talking away homes for animals as well as a place for humans to admire. This ad/video mush have gotten a huge amount of people to talk to Dove to try and slow down their use of palm oil in their products.

It was an effective ad. It was against dove cutting down all the forests. It said that Dove was killing all the lives in the forest just to make palm oil. Its target audience is the Dove users.

This ad can be considered more beneficial than harmful when taking into consideration the extent of truth it reflects when it comes to the harm multinationals cause to undeveloped and developing nations with the purpose of maximizing their profit and exploiting cheap natural resources and labour, altough it can't be taken at face value.
