Activate Emotion
This is propaganda because
This image is propaganda because it is first used to activate emotion. When you look at this image you feel the sadness of the loss of a great artist. However you also feel the emotion of how true the statement in the picture is. The all you need is love statement alone can active many different emotions so I believe this is an effective communication strategy.

This media is using strategic communication because it’s a form of propaganda, it plays on human emotions in relation to John Lennon, the musician who supposedly wanted peace and love for all. Despite knowing that John Lennon, was an abuser, his music did relay a message of hope to all. Using the phrase, “all you need is love,” from the popular Beatles song, “Love is All You Need.” One can put aside the harsher truths of John Lennon’s character and remember how that song speaks a heartwarming message. The image used also evokes a an emotional response as he is sullen instead of smiling, giving the image a more serious tone, as if saying we really need love in today’s world. The monochrome treatment once more signifies the importance of the message.
