Technique Used
Activate Emotion
This is propaganda because
This is a parody of a cell phone ad produced by MTV and it appeared on the show, Decoded. We see the parents are buying a new cell phone for their student who is going off to college -- but it's a powerful commentary on racism and police brutality

This message is propaganda because it is using the obsession of cell phones to provide a racial message about African American and cops. This message is benifical. This propagandist is "selling the message" by using the obsession of cell phones and the amount of decriminiation that is going on around the country by saying cops see all African Americans as bad people and are always causing trouble. This video is using association becaause it is using a new cell phone to advertise the discrimination of cops is the U.S.

This message qualifies as propaganda because it is trying to sell the fact the some cops are racist and think that the African american community is all bad and are criminals. I think this message could be half beneficial because it shows that you should not judge someone based on race. Also shouldn't think that all cops are racist. They are selling this by using comedy. The emotional appeal would be the appeal to social fears because some people are afraid of some cops' intentions, if the media shows that some are racist

This message obviously qualifies as propaganda because it poses as purposeful persuasion and strategic communication. Its beneficial it brings awareness to a huge problem blacks in America faces, an issue that doesn't always receive the attention it really deserves. In this fake ad the message was really sold when the cops come into the store threatening the the black teen and screaming for him to put down the "weapon" when in actuality it was a phone. This appeals to a sense of associations and pity. It makes us feel a sense of pity through showing the phone could endure through police brutality along with many other features that related to the topic.

Form of propaganda towards how some cops treat people differently because of race. The cops in the video had a different reaction towards the men. Its beneficial in some ways because it brings up awareness towards how cops and people in general are treating African Americans. Not all cops act this way. Appeal to social fears because its shows the treatment of African Americans being "rejected in a way".

I totally agree with Yaritza V, we do treat african americans differently then white people. Not all cops do act this way like she said but we've had many cases involving a cop and an african american.

this is harmful because it shows how police are so quick to judge and it shows the black male with his phone and they just accused him of having a gun then the white male takes the phone and they think nothing of it this is appeal to authority

Jordan C said that "this ad appeals to association and pity". I agree with that statement because makes you feel for the guy in video because he was doing nothing illegal but was still antagonized by the police, which some african americans have went through in america today. I also think the ad does a good job at showcasing a problem that has been plaguing america and the fact they made it for a major media source for a lot people to see only adds to its impact.
