Background Information
This is an health insurance advertisement published by Sun Life Financial Hong Kong on 11 Feb 2019. It used a hypothetical question of what would you do if your life expectancy is 120 years old after a controversial speech by Dr. Law Chi-kwong, the Secratery of Labour and Welfare in the Hong Kong Government, in the legislative council saying "When everybody is 120 years old, one is considered as middle aged at 60 years old" .
Technique Used
Respond to Audience Needs
This is propaganda because
This advertisement responded to audience's needs by beginning the ad with a question "If you can live 120 years, how will your life be?" Later in the ad, it says "Living 120 years is no longer a difficult thing. What do you want to do? What can you do? Not only it is decided by you, it is decided by your health." This prompts audiences to think of what will happen when they become old and feel the need to have a healthy body even when they are old. At this point, towards the end of the ad (28th sec), the ad promotes the medical and critical illness insurance product.
It is not harmful because it is selling a legitimate product (insurance) that can provide protection when you become old.
