BIDEN DEFENDS FAMILY

Background Information
2020 Presidential candidate, Joe Biden, posted this tweet of a photo of him and his son after the first 2020 Presidential debate aired between himself and President Trump. During the debate, President Trump interrupted Biden to debunk one of his points by brining up his deceased son Beau Biden who had struggled with a cocaine addiction. Candidate Biden, as well as audience members were horrified that Trump had brought up Beau to then insult him on national television five years after his death despite his time spent in the military and battle with brain cancer. Biden then posted this photo to Twitter to show his support and love for his passed son despite his struggle with addiction.
Technique Used
Activate Emotion
This is propaganda because
Although this propaganda could be argued as a form to attack opponents, since it is attacking the debate tactics of President Trump. I felt it was best used to activate emotion. By posting this tweet, specifically because it is a photo of his son in uniform, Biden is connecting to millions of people who have been affected by addition in their lives. Whether it be themselves or a loved one, Biden showcases his understanding, support and love for those battling or have been lost to the disease. It also attacks Trump by making him look evil for going after a passed veteran.

I rated this image as beneficial, which matched the majority of ratings. This form of propaganda was meant to activate emotion. No matter what side of politics people are on I respect Biden in his decision to post this tweet to defend his late son. I think what is important here is to not degrade a person who struggled with addiction as it is a disease. This example demonstrates the nature of contemporary propaganda by causing a somewhat universal emotion towards it.
