Meme: Feed Vets, Not Syrian Rebels

Background Information
This image is taken from Twitter, from an article regarding how a disabled veteran has destroyed anti-refugee arguments. It has appeared excessively in news feeds following Syrian attacks.

This is propaganda because
The image narrates the length of news broadcasts suggesting and influencing public opinion on how the US President is more concerned with helping Syrian refugees rather than US veterans. The issues of veteran affairs and of aid for Syria are more complicated and likely not related, although this meme links the two issues with a simple message.

These kind of adds make me sad because even though they might be right in some way, i always believe that we are all human and we need to help each other if they ask for it. Not go and force ourselves to help them because sometimes we just make it worse.

This image qualifies as propaganda in the form of advocacy. It is beneficial to the U.S. but may be harmful to the Syrians. It's selling the message by showing a picture of what I assume to be a homeless veteran sitting on a park bench. The emotional appeal is pity, they want us to feel bad for that homeless vet so we can change our mind about feeding the Syrians.

I agree with what the description and am quite surprised by the stark divide in the ratings. The other thing that I find interesting is that they chose to use the word rebel vs refugee because rebel has a more negative connotation and make them seem much less deserving than vets.

I think this picture is beneficial because it uses facts of how many homeless veterans their are.

It is unfair to compare Syrian refugees to homeless veterans. It is not an either/or situation. Both groups should be helped equally with disregard to nationality and religion. When people are in need it is our job to help them, regardless of where they are from.
