Cartoon Commentary on Media Focus

Background Information
Shared on Facebook. This is an artistic representation of the way that the media chooses what kind of tragedy gets the attention of the world.
Technique Used
Simplify Ideas
This is propaganda because
This is positioning the media as responsible shaping perception through selectively ignoring many of the tragedies occurring across the Middle East. It is a simplified view of this media phenomenon that does not account for the reasons why media might focus on Paris in this way nor what the ramifications might be.

I chose very beneficial for this picture, as 33% of people did as well. I think this is so true, the media chooses what topics (tragedies) are chosen to be talked about and which ones are not; when they all deserve equal attention.

I love this picture. It is so accurate to how the media gets to truly show the issues it finds important. There is always terrible things going on all over the world, but the media likes to focus on what we find most relatable, so in this case the attacks on Paris

This is an extremely thought-provoking cartoon. I understand the use of propoganda, however, I would think this is a way to stimulate emotion. We all understand the tragity that is happening in Paris, and it was alarming and emotional for a lot of people because it reflects what we think is like our "civilized country". What we don't think about is the rest of the world that is going through this sort of thing every day.
I beleive your position to be correct as well on why it's propoganda.

This image really puts things into perspective, however it does not discuss any of the good that came out the of Paris attacks, so it is not completely beneficial... only partially.

I don't think there was any harm done with this artist's sketch. In fact, 60% of people who voted agreed with me. The media did focus heavily on the Paris attack, while many other countries go through tragedies like this too.

I'm seeing what they are trying to interpret in this drawing but I'm not understanding how other people are supposed to feel about it.

Powerful message. The media holds the power as to what gets coverage and what isn't significant enough. This is what I want to change as an aspiring travel writer and photojournalist. I want to give coverage to those I believe truly deserve and need it. I want to tell the story of those who aren't being heard.

This is extremely accurate. The entire worlds news focus was diverted to Paris and their attacks while several other countries in the Middle East have been tremendously impacted by war and yet no efforts have been made to aid them. I think the argument is accurate on how the media portrays our perception of importance to things happening in the world.

This image is very important as it is showing that the media and the world focused more on what happened with Paris rather then what is happening in other parts of the world. There are others parts of the world who is going through things that are horrible, yet media only shows what they want and we don't get to see what else is going on around us.

I didn't understand this well at first, but after looking at it, I realized that the media focus, and therefore resources, information, and assistance tend to get focused in one area instea of the many areas of the world where violence is happening on a large scale every day.

I understand the point behind the illustration. We may see what the media is showing us here, but one war zone or another, they are all horrible. I think a majority of news coverage still shows there terror going on in the middle east, but Paris was out of the norm from where the primary areas of terror are.

I think that this tackles the problem of the media in a different way that to me, is very creative! I think it's good for people to know that there are still problems in the world that the media doesn't report on. I actually really like this.
