The Girl Effect PSA

Background Information
Girl Effect is a movement created by the NIKE foundation. It works to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty by connecting girls to each other and to the critical assets they need. The Girl Effect movement seeks to change perceptions about the best way to affect development and get audiences to contribute money to the movement.
Technique Used
Respond to Audience Needs
This is propaganda because
This ad shows how young girls who live in poverty are at risk of being treated like women when they begin puberty, which can impact their health and ability to make personal choices. Health and freedom are highly valued and the ad uses these ideals to show the dangers of what can happen to young girls who are forced into sexual situations at early ages.

This video was beneficial because it shows how girls at the age of 12 can be in poverty and how they can have a better life even though they are poor instead of being in a messed up situation.

i think it is good for people to see what would happen if those two things happened every day. Honestly i don't think could survive without a stable roof over my head.

I pegged this video as mostly beneficial. Ensuring that young girls born into poverty can obtain the tools needed for success is a positive thing. This certainly appeals to emotions. These emotions are tied to American cultural values. Children are depicted as a commodity that needs to be nurtured. Female children are often seen as needing to be protected, which links to how patriarchal our society is.

the downside to this video is that it gives the impression that girls born into poverty don't ever succeed on their own. I also would have to ask, what about young boys in who are born into poverty? I get that this is dealing with girls in particular because their experiences are different, but I think the question is still valid. I think raising money to help girls is easier due to the cultural leanings in this country. Pulling on heartstrings with females as the subject likely yields better results.

Although this was a very eye opening video, I don't agree with the future that a 12 year old girl would face just from growing up in poverty. These days there are more resources available for young girls, and I believe it can help avoid certain situations and lead to a positive, healthy life.

I think this one is a little over the top, they defiantly took every example to the extreme.

I struggle with this video, which is why I labeled it as in the middle. I think the overall message is very good: girls are important! But I dislike the way that the video takes away any agency that a girl might have; might it perhaps have been a better message to show a girl that exemplifies their proposition and show HER power? Additionally, I don't love that this video is sponsored by NIKE considering that they have been found using child labor in the past. Overall, I think I struggle saying that the ends justify the means here; I don't think they do.

I liked this video and thought it was beneficial and thought-provoking. It shed light on an issue that many people never experience first-hand, or know that needs help and support.

I don't really understand what's going on or what it's trying to say.
