Keep Kittens From Becoming Trash

Background Information
This is designed to change people's attitudes about baby cats, simplifying ideas about pet reproduction and identifying it as a problem that needs to be solved by spaying or neutering cats.
Technique Used
Activate Emotion
This is propaganda because
The Humane Society is encouraging people to spay their cats, using the word "litter" to equate a group of baby cats with trash.

I find this to be a very beneficial advertisement, because it promotes an important idea- that animal life is inherently valuable, and we need to take steps in order to preserve their life rather than have cats die through overbreeding.

Catchy phrase but, this might not spark interest in non-cat lovers.

I like this because it juxtaposes the emotion of adoration for the kittens with the emotions of complacency and acceptance of the status quo.

I think this is an incredibly beneficial use of propaganda. As stated, it activates emotion but it also has a strong message. I think the simple format provokes just enough curiosity that readers will understand the message as it's easy relatable to the picture. Depending on the environment that this piece is placed in, it could have a significant impact upon those who view it.

I am actually surprised to see that 53% of people rated it as beneficial. In my opinion I think it is rather harmful, but maybe that is because I am big on animals, and animal rights.

My rating aligned with 54% others who think this ad is beneficial. I agree with the interpretation above that it is effective propaganda because it is trying to find a solution to a problem.

It was beneficial because most people are animal lovers and showing animals can become very impactful

I think it is helpful because today there are a lot of animals without homes and if we spay and neuter cats that will help

I agreed with only surprisingly 17 percent of the people who voted. I think it's dumb to make it to where people can't have baby cats or to where they get it in there head that they don't want cats. It's stupid to me.

The majority of us found this beneficial. There is definitely a problem with stray cats continuously breeding and the risk that comes from the survival of the litters. All to often cats are being dumped at animal hospitals or sides of roads because there's too many. Spays and neutering need to be done.

I guess I found it helpful partly because it is something I agree with. Also, the simplicity makes it easy to understand what they want you to do to help.

This qualifies as propaganda through advertising. It is beneficial by helping animals. It sells the message by saying litter like trash but with its a litter of kittens instead. The emotional appeal is Pity, they want you to feel bad for the cats or kittens so they say litter and trash but using a group of kittens as the picture.

I have spent a lot of my adult years volunteering in animal shelters and while I appreciate this attempt to promote spaying and neutering, I find it harmful that they are comparing cats to trash. It also implies that if you don't and have kitten litters, you have no responsibility for them, which is absolutely untrue. I find this harmful.

I feel that the only reason that this is at 57% beneficial is because a lot of people hate cats. I felt that it wasn't that good or bad. Yes a lot of animals are in shelters, but it should be up to the owners whether they want to neuter their pets. It is also harmful in saying that baby animals (in this case cats) are a waste. If we don't have babies, we won't have adult animals either.

M voted in the 3rd bracket, while most people voted beneficial. This wasn't as impactful for me since it took me a couple of seconds to grasp the message.

I think Christine captures an important point. The motivation of the add is good but I must say I had a bit of a cringe reaction because of any type of equation of kittens/cats and trash. I think there are better ways of getting the point across than this. Good intention but needs better execution.
