This example also requires the viewer to use some "visual literacy" in order to interpret what is being represented and claimed. For example, will most students understand that the needle and thread represent "stitches"? Will they know what the letters GMO represent? In order to interpret this ad and its claims, students might need to do some research on the "sponsor" or "producer" of this ad. Here is a backgrounder with additional details: http://thepaleomama.com/2014/01/monsanto-using-4-h-brainwash-children-gmos/

I think anti-Monsanto messages are important because Monsanto is a very big company that wants to take over the business of agriculture.

Using fear tactics aimed at children participating in a healthy cause (4H) is tacky.

I am well educated about the topics presented here. I notice the ad is sponsored by a certain type of diet, which shows somewhat of a point of view. I do not believe the ad is effective, therefore I gave it a neutral vote. In regards to the brainwashing claim, that is nonsensical since that would require isolating a child from their peers. The ad would be more effective if it claimed propaganda is used, which is true.

I think that the visuals are good but the test can be confusing. It doesn't explain how Monsato is using 4-H to brainwash children.

Parents fears are to be exploited by the apple being seen as the healthy choice kids snack versus the genetically GMO's food

This is an interesting example, with no clear cut answer. It's clear that 4H encourages farming, but without knowing more about the practices 4H promotes, it's difficult to know whether Monsanto's campaign is brainwashing or providing useful factual information.

I see this ad as beneficial because it is meant to activate emotion. I am a big advocate against GMO's so I think that the harshness of the ad is necessary to get the point across.

While I dont think many adds are harmful, I feel this ad takes it a step too far. It really displays a sense of almost brainwashing. It really pushes the message home in a way that heavily persuades the reader, instead of just putting the thought in your head. The graphic imagery helps with that.

it is an example of activate motion.
it creates fear in parents by saying their children are being brainwashed, it make them hate 4-H and Monsanto. the image makes the reader not trust Monsanto"s food because it looks like something bad happened to the fruit and Monsanto is trying to cover it up.

I noticed the ad is sponsored by PaleoMama, obviously trying to sell a lifestyle. The term brainwashing is a little extreme.

This msg qualifies as propaganda because it makes us as views scared that our "natural" food is becoming artificial. This msg is beneficial to us a viewers so that we can learn more about what is going into our food. The propaganist is selling the msg by showing us an apple that was stitched together. This is an example of fear because it creates a sense of urgency in the reader to find out what's in their food.

This message qualifies as propaganda because it was intentionally designed to influence others of the the harmful GMO's that are consumed by children. This is beneficial because it makes you aware of GMO's and their negative impact. Propaganda is selling this message through advertising because they want to generate an increased amount of viewers. This message appeals to force because of you don't agree and ignore it, then you will only be harmed more.

This message qualifies with propaganda because it makes you feel worried for your child when you read it. This message is beneficial to society because it is informing us that this company is dangerous for our health and we should be more concerned for our children. Propaganda is selling this message by using serious words like 'brainwash' and '4H' and bringing up the dangers to our children. An emotional appeal to this message would be appeal to self-esteem because by knowing that this company is bad and that you shouldn't by their products to keep your child safe.

This is propaganda because it is designed to make you think monsanto is a bad company and genetically modified foods are bad. They sell the message by making the apple look unhealthy and completely unnatural. Using words like brainwash reinforce the idea. Association is used because a symbol of health and being natural is the apple, which looks like neither of those things here.

I rated this as harmful NOT because it vilifies Monsanto, but because I think it perpetuates dangerous ideas about genetic technologies. Genetic engineering can be used for good, or for bad, but much like propaganda itself- it all depends on what you do with (and who's doing it).

It definitely makes me rethink about what i'm eating considering it might be genetically modified. And it sounds scary too which would definitely raise awareness about this issue.

This campaign does not really effect me in any way because I am not a part of 4-H, but the stitched up apple is kind of nasty and might make people rethink buying Monsanto products.
