White House Letter to Media

The CNN article begins by acknowledging the letter sent by the Biden administration, as does the Fox News article. What varies is the way they speak about the impeachment inquiry in question, and whether they are seemingly in favor or against it. For CNN, they lead with the inquiry is “based on lies.” Readers of CNN will see this, it will respond to their readers values as many of them are more Democrat and it activates strong emotions against the inquiries (and by extension, the Republican party). For Fox News, the lead that the White House is being called out for their letter, and that it is “Outrageous.” Readers of Fox News will see this, it will resonate with them as more are Republican, it activates strong emotions against the Biden White House (and by extension, the Republican party). Both articles oversimplify a very complicated political matter, especially the reasoning behind the White House’s decision to advise media companies in what/what not to do. Also, both sides want to attack the other side and place blame on the other.
