   When I first looked at this cartoon I actually was a bit confused. The purpose of this cartoon is to simplify a complex issue but it took me a bit to connect with what the cartoon specified as kneeling. As an American I was very very confused on how attached the NBA is to their financials and their dependence on China. This cartoon takes two very controversial issues and compares them together which. The football player Colin Kaepernick kneels for America and injustice while the NBA kneels for China and its money. While I think the cartoon is beneficial and good at simplifying ideas I also don't think its necessarily effective at what it does. Kaepernick is kneeling for issues that are happening in America while the NBA is juggling an international offense about the support of the Hong Kong protests. In order to be effective I think the cartoon should emphasize the bullying that China does and the hush hush and secrecy that China enforces. The whole point of Kaepernick kneeling is to start a conversation and a type of civic discourse in America while the NBA and China issue is something that just happened as a result of a Tweet in support of the Hong Kong protests. Instead of portraying the Chinese in this cartoon as a business man I think it would be more effective to show China as a bully. Yes China does use money as a means to control companies but I think as an American the propaganda in this cartoon would be more effective if the Chinese man was depicted differently. Yes include the money but he looks too straight laced for all the shady things that China is doing.
