Naked Athena in Portland
Context
On July 13th, 2020, President Donald Trump held a press conference during which he commented on the 2020 George Floyd and Black Lives Matter protests against police brutality and racism in Portland, Oregon. He said:
"We've done a great job in Portland. Portland was totally out of control, and they went in, and I guess we have many people right now in jail. We very much quelled it, and if it starts again, we'll quell it again very easily."
A variety of videos have shown an altercation with unidentified federal agents arresting a protester. Then "Naked Athena of Portland Oregon" inspired the police to back off protestors by stripping naked and sitting down in the street showing she has nothing to be of a threat to them so they couldn’t advance without cause. This is a form of positive propaganda because it encouraged people to identify with the protestors.
