Dunkirk is a 2017 film about the evacuation of British soldiers under attack by Nazi Germany in World War II. The film was the highest grossing WWII film of all time and it was written, directed and produced by Christopher Nolan.
- first of all it neglects nuance present in the film. Whereas the focal characters represent heroism or at least proactivity, their effort in shown in context where other less noble attitutes are present.
- then it neglects the historical background of the film and the facts behind the script. Evacuating more than 300 k soldiers in extreme conditions and with support of several hundreds of civilian yachts and boats and RAF can be viewed as an achievement possible to the fact that some people in thas crowd showed true heroism and proactivity. Christopher Nolan has the right to acknowledge their true story.
