Taiwan separated from China in 1949, in the same year, China created the People's Liberation Army. In 1954, China declared that Taiwan must be liberated. This was the First Taiwan Strait Crisis happening from 1954-1955. With USSR supporting China and USA defending Taiwan, the crisis came to an end but not their conflict.
