This is an image created for social media to identify inconsistency in arguments for banning Syrian refugees in the US by comparing our lack of support for refugees with the Puritans who were escaping religious persecution in Europe.

This is a direct response to arguments to prevent refugees from entering the US. It simplifies the concept of providing aid and calls out those opposed to refugees as hypocrites. It is mainly beneficial but does overlook the threat of terrorism.

    This propaganda is using emotional appeals by saying they didn't give the natives aid may make people upset. Also they use Logos because the image is accurate in what they are trying to say. These two persuasive techniques go well together in this sense.

    This isn't necessarily an advertisement but it does touch upon propaganda. Traditionally propaganda has to bend the truth but this piece doesn't bend the truth as we know it. This piece does use ethos. The pilgrims were once migrants searching for a home and now the world is faced by a new challenge of greater per-portion but the same ethical question. The creator of this piece wants the viewers to compare the two situations at hand and have the US apply the same hospitality to the refugees from the Middle East. Yet, that same hospitality didn't work out all that well for the Native Americans that showed kindness to the pilgrims.

    This is propaganda because it is over simplifying the immigration problem in America and is trying to make people angry and react to it. The ad is trying to make Americans seem ignorant and hypocritical.

    This is kind of funny in a way because the Puritans (refugees) destroyed the Native Americans no long after. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe that Syrian refugees would cause terrorism, but other side effects.

    This is beneficial and super ironic. Because we don't want to help people but yet we celebrate a holiday that has to do with aiding refugees.

    I found this image purely beneficial as a form of propaganda. I do agree it may oversimplify the immigration problem or make a connection between 2 very different time periods. However, it sheds light on a problem and underlying irony in US history in a way that is easily accessible to most viewers.

    This to me doesn't make allot of sense. If the argument is that since people let us into their country why shouldn't we, then this is an abundance of illogical fallacies. The biggest one is the is ought fallacy, the add is saying just because something happened automatically makes it the right thing to do. Also if its arguing that we should always let people in, it is disregarding the fact that the pilgrims raped and murdered the Indians that where "assisting" them. I am not saying that all pilgrims where guilty but in my opinion it is better to be safe than sorry even if it is the harder path to take.

    This image calls upon old traditions in order to garner sympathy for the refugees from the middle eastern war zones. This appeal to tradition is harmful and ignorant of the changing times. The Pilgrims were colonists while the migrants today are refugees under very different circumstances. It should be noted that the colonists caused mass genocide as well so comparing the migrants of today to the colonists of the past does not exactly paint a pretty picture.

    The statement is making a comparison between two apparently similar situations, but ignoring the fact that these are two different historical periods (with different values and mentalities). Refugees and migrants are taken as a single concept, as if the two words semantically have no differences not only in connotation but in their deeper meanings structures themselves.
    The picture chosen for the post is colorful, made in classic art style and is showing natives and migrants cohabitating - no, natives being served and treated well by the migrants. This is opposite of the message written, and is subtly showing "the ideal that could be".
    Is this post harmful or beneficial: no matter the personal stance, I must conclude the facts given (comparison of different eras) and linguistically, this post is not..well, not correct. Therefore it is harmful to the ideological stance of it's maker too, does not serve them as beneficial.
